After the first couple of days in the liuxuesheng sushe, I’m pretty certain that I have to move out. The beds are paper thin, the heating doesnt work, the toilet was broken, and they accused me of overusing my electricity. Besides having to go to sleep fully clothed (hoody and scarf included), Ithink life would be a whole deal better in a real mattress, with heating. Last night the temperature in my room was the temperature outside. My roommate has not arrived yet, but I’m guessing he’ll move out too when he sleeps on the mattress.
But besides the discrepancies with the quality of the dorm, I really like it here. Shanghai is a beautiful city rich with life. It’s still a dream to be here, and today was fun looking for apartments. So far we went to one compound, and tomorrow we are meeting 3 other real estate agents. Hopefully we can find something soon that will satisfy our needs. For the time being, this apartment we found was very comfortable – on the 15th floor:
8500 RMB (951 Euros), 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, dining room, fully furnished (except that 1 bed is missing, currently negotiating with the landlord), inside a foreigner compound, in between Renmin Lu and Huahai Lu (near the Yiyuan Garden, Xintiandi and Nanjing Lu)
